Dimensional Lumber
Dimensional lumber refers to the standard sizes of lumber that are manufactured and purchased commercially. Wolfram|Alpha uses data and formulas to determine the sizes of standard lumber. Lumber mills manufacture standard nominal sizes of dimensional lumber based on both width and thickness. Length can also be a factor. After the lumber dries and is planed, its actual dimensions are smaller. Calculate how much lumber can be obtained from a log of a known size based on standard formulas from the lumber industry.
Dimensional Lumber
Determine the nominal and actual dimensions of standardized lumber by specifying a board size, or find the volume of lumber obtained from a log by using one of several formulas.
